Default Current REAL trades revealed: What I'm Actually Trading Right Now!

Here's screencaps of some of my recent trading activity, for you to learn from.

I suggest you pay attention to:

+ time of day positions entered/exited
+ amount of wins in $$ relative to stops
+ chart patterns, when posted
+ trading methods used

Note: while most of my personal income is from training active traders, I am also a genuine
trader and am net profitable in my trades -- there's a lot to learn about how actual trades
work, so study these trading entries, exits, P&Ls and more for selected examples of how
both wins and stops work.

This is not by any means a complete record of all my trades (sometimes I may make many
dozens of trades a day, which I do not take time to document or screencap). I take many
stops as well as wins, which I have not screencapped or included here. This is a partial
record of some of my winning trades, and stop-losses, to illustrate what my more successful
days look like. It is not a complete record of all of my trades.

INCOME / Position Scaling Question for Other Traders:
As you know, I've built my business over the last 10+ years based
on my own tested trading methods, using what I've learned from
my own actual trades... and business has been decent enough.
Most of my income has come from my training business, by teaching
traders how I make real trades (on small share entries and exits).

I want to continue to make that clear, for transparency
and compliance; eg I'm primarily a trainer of traders; that's what
I do for a living -- what makes learning from me preferable, is
that I'm also a net profitable real trader (albeit on small share size).

Although I don't make millions teaching traders (like some of
the trading vendors do, by affiliate-marketing mega expensive
courses), and I don't make a fortune trading, I am a net profitable
trader, having for example turned $29K into $41K in my IB account,
and boosting my SEP IRA up to just over $78K this past 15 months.
So that's saying something, at least I'm net profitable as a
trader, albeit on small shares/sub 6-figure account size.

I also take trading losses as well. I am not claiming to be a super-successful
high dollar figure winning trader, as I'm not. I have made more in winning
trades than losing trades, but not a fortune.

But I need to start scaling up -- because my goal is to create
more wealth from my trading than I do from my teaching. Once I
can do that, on larger position size, I can start outsourcing my
business and get to full time trading, versus trying to do everything
(run my business while trading small shares each day)....

Any ideas, on how to get comfortable scaling up in size, to make
better-leveraged trades? My momentum doubler strategy works great,
for small share trading (as you've seen from some of the examples
I post at the TradingTalk.com forum), but I haven't used it with
bigger trades (eg 5K shares+) -- that's my own "sticking point".

Let me know if you have any ideas on how to get comfortable trading
larger size; I make trades up to several thousand shares and limited
to $15-20K max per trade in capital, I need to break through that
barrier to achieve true wealth as a trader (not just a trainer of
traders on small share size trades, which I'm doing fine with
right now).

Of course the flip side is, if and when I get to successfully
expanding my own personal trading beyond small shares, I won't
have much incentive to run my business, hence the idea for outsourcing
(and/or selling it to a brokerage). For now, I'm here for
everyone, though I'd appreciate any ideas on how to get into
large position sizes comfortably; that's always been my #1 top
personal trading challenge, that keeps me doing my trader training
business for my primary income source. Ideas on leveraging up?

To your success,

Ken Calhoun

p.s. as usual, per sec regs, none of this is to be construed as trading recommendations, it's just for educational use only, so you can
"peek over my shoulder" to see what I'm doing with my trades. See www.daytradingu.com/disclaim.htm for full disclaimer.
These pages contain excerpts of actual trades I've made; it's not a complete record of every single trade I make, since on some days
I may be doing many dozens of trades and don't make the time to capture everything. I try to capture the best highlights so you can
see practical examples of what I'm trading.

Note I'm going to be aggressively trading these markets 1Q 2009; you're welcome to come back here now and then to see how I'm doing it.

Default ZLC winning trade, in from low 3s, exited near 4

Here's an example of $970+ I made in recent ZLC swing trades, I'd bought in in the low 3s, and sold up near 4.0 resistance.

Note that these are for my daytrading IB account; I'm still in long 1K shares for my position/longer term account, as I think it still has upside long action left.

TRADING LESSON LEARNED:
+ Sell into whole number resistance; ZLC was up +18% when I sold it on the day; I'm looking to re-buy if it drops back down in the mid 3s, for swing trades. I told you all I was buying ZLC in size a couple of weeks ago in the email, hope anyone following it saw how well it worked!

IB account action: I made over $1K in wins today so far:

Here's the ZLC chart: I'd bought in the low 3s and sold at 3.99, near 4.0 whole number resistance. It kept going up a bit over 4, but I didn't re-buy, as I think it may drop a bit further later in the session. We'll see! I am not going to chase it, since I'm already in long 1K shares in my position accounts, still holding, as we speak. I did sell 1500 shares today from my day trading IB account to bank this win.

I cover this strategy in the premium webinar recording at http://www.DaytradingUniversity.com/...gerProfits.htm; eg if I'm
bullish long and short-term a given stock, I'll hold the position trade, while trading in and out of the day/swing account in the same stock, in a
different account (I use IB for my day trades/swings, and Fidelity for my position trading account). That solves the "I don't want to sell because
if I do it may run up without me" problem, since I'm trading it simultaneously in multiple accounts.

Note I'm also looking for big moves in oil stocks (OIL, DXO) and casino stocks (MGM, LVS) during 1Q 2009. I'm also in size in TRMP CAR BGP,
though those are currently 'underwater'/in the red, from where I'd entered them by a bit. TRMP got a bump up today, so I bought more. DRYS also
one to keep an eye on, with 14 resistance 8 support. Also I bought a bit more GGP since it got some buying, 1.5 resistance so far today.

was trying to get back in/out of ZLC here, looks toppy at the 4.28, so out of all ZLC in intraday account.. eg bought 4.25 but then quickly sold back. I'm going to see if it drops, I won't buy again unless it gets under 4 or over 4.5.

there's a shooting star on the 10-minute in this chart (bearish reversal possible), so I'm more likely to wait to see if it drops into the afternoon, then buy back when it looks like it's sold down and starting to bounce again. COMPQ still looks long here near 1606 and TRINs are bullish.

Here's the pattern, see the "shooting star" (inverse hammer) at the top?

hmm now I've gotta figure out if I want to buy this back again today for a swing, I likely will if it gets as low at 3.5-3.7 and starts to pivot on volume.

update 1:24pmEST looks like consolidation near the 4.1, I may buy back in a bit if it gets over 4.12 or so on + volume. COMPQ++ action here, now at 1615 and trins still low, bullish

just bought 2k more TRMP here, now in 5K shares at .25 in my main IB account. reason for trade is the large buying volume today, took it from yesterday's .17 close to a high of .26. hopefully i didn't just buy a top...

LVS also very strong today, I'll wait til after a down day/series of days to add further to position, I'm in 600 shares from 6.58 in my IB day acct.

just sold LVS 500 shares for a $483 profit at 6.97, will re-buy back in if it breaks 7.15 resistance. market looks like COMPQ 1620 resistance, keeping eye on TRINs. also just sold 1k MGM at the 15.0 here, from intraday acct, for another $901 winner.

My winning trades, actual realized P&L I banked with real capital, real trades is $3215 for today! Feels great to be winning.

PROOF (amounts of wins in blue, amounts of stops in red):

I want to get back into ZLC LVS MGM on weakness, I'll see if they drop into the close, looks like the COMPQ is falling here,
a pivot now since dropping sub 1615. Still long-term bullish (and long, in position acct/fidelity) in all 3, selling from short
term intraday acct here though, to bank profits. still in 200 long MGM here from earlier in intraday, will sell if it loses 14.8, or if
it runs up into the close. or sooner, depends on tape/trin/compq pattern

bought another 1k BGP here 2:18pm

note that I'm closely using my tape reading patterns for all entries and exits, of course.

update sold MGM final 200 shares in intraday acct here at 15.16 for another profit 2:26pmEST
looking to sell LVS remaining 100 shares in intraday acct on first sign of selling.. right now it's strong, testing 7.1 resistance at 2:27pm

2:28pmEST: trying to determine whether to add to DXO/OIL, and when/if to get back into ZLC. mostly watching LVS tape here, looks strong into
7.1 resistance, will see if it pops up or fades

my temptation in this volatile market is to continue to sell into rallies, and re-buy on dips/red selloff days. reminding myself to take profits
early and often, since I can always re-buy into positions later. LVS new high here, but I'm ready to sell on drop under 7.

note I'm not shorting anything today of course, this is a "sell winning position/swings into rallies to book profits" day.

2:32pm EST, COMPQ continues to rally, up testing 1625 resistance right now.

2:33pm EST just sold final 100 shares LVS here at 7.09, can buy back on dip/selloff. I think we're near a top, shooting stars on 5/10/15 min charts, I'm out.

P&L Update: as of 2:34pm EST, I banked $3,577 in winners today.
Who's the man?
PROOF: here's the realized (actual) P&L I banked today... ca-chingo!

** Can anyone else claiming to be able to teach traders, show you REAL PROOF like this? **
Buy all my stuff, while I'm still running this business. I am a real trader. Who wins.

2:37pm EST Here's my updated trade record for today so far. What a day. I'm in a good mood.
Again, note the BLUE amounts are the WINS, and the red amount is my stop. Whoomp there it is.

2:38pm EST my cash position now is now I have $24,750 available to 'go shopping/trading' with, into the close.
I'm not sure I'll buy anything, as I definitely expect a DOWN RED day coming up soon, so I would like to be mostly
cash into that. We'll see.

2:41pmEST My BGP is taking off. my 7k shares in IB are in from avg position of .64 though (it's at .49 now), so I need
it to climb a lot more to turn into green. patience, padawan, patience....

(note I am *not* going to be running a live room again, been there done that, thanks anyways for the email questions.
why would I want to do that when I can trade my own accounts instead?)...

update 2:51pm EST bought back 300 shares ZLC here at 4.05, I don't think it'll drop any further today at least, hopefully no
gap down on tomorrow's open, that's why small shares, risk of gap- following this 20%+ move. still long size in position accts
in this.

hmm missed out on BR, nice move today from 12.6 to 14.2 so far, great trend line, will watch next week; BUCY also strong today
from 17 to 20.4 so far.

Update 3:18EST sold back 100 of the ZLC, looks like it's dropping a bit to test 4.0. Watching LVS here at the 7.15, I don't want
to buy any of it back up here, since 20-day resistance at the 7.7, but I'll buy a bit if it drops far enough into the close, eg sub 6.7,
which probably won't happen. Gotta fight the temptation to trade/overtrade. Likely a good time to just turn off the monitors, but
of course I can't do that. Eyes glued to my charts here into the close. Wonderful trading day. Yeah!

I think crude'll run/gap early next week, wondering if I should add more DXO, or OIL. Tried to buy small shares OIH but it said
you can't trade odd lots, and I don't want to buy 100+ of it at $80/share.

Strong closes here in SPWRB JRCC GS LVS MGM and many others.

update 3:40 pm just bought 40 OIL, and 100 each MGM LVS here into the close

update 3:47pm EST Just bought another 200 shares DXO here at 3.1

note: mutual funds/hedge funds etc will need to "look good" during 2009, so we're likely to see a huge "January effect", eg buying
a lot of small/mid caps during the next few weeks. Opportunities abound here. And I'd successfully, correctly called the market
bottom in late Oct/early November for all of you. Now the real fireworks begin.

**What a rally day! Market's closed at 1632 from a 1573 open, nice strong run for us, up +3.38% from open in the COMPQ
Exciting day to be trading today! Hope you all did well with your trades too. Have a terrific weekend.

Mon Jan 5th, 2009: 8:24am EST.

Reminding myself that despite last weeks' strong closing rally day, Mondays are often low-volume, with headfakes and poor trading setups, so I'll be more cautious today. I want to see strong volume on 2-day high/low breakouts for in-trend entries today, and preferably a COMPQ outside Friday's highs, for entries. Good example of when discipline is needed. Overall I think we'll have a great January for trading, I'll just be careful to not overtrade. Premarket SPY downtrend inside, to the 92.0 support here, which is net bearish/low volatility (compared to outside gap). Gap+ in DRYS; AAPL premkt trading up to 93 here, as of 8:49am EST

9:40am EST update: COMPQ trending down here to 1615, intrarange on 2-day, and most sectors (except oil/gold) red, so I'm not looking for buys unless I see a great chart (LVS/ZLC look to be doing well so far), or unless COMPQ gets > 1625.

9:44am EST bought 400 LVS at 7.39 here on 2dh b/o

keeping an eye on DXO OIL DRYS ZLC MGM for possible new buys if they take out new highs

TCK and TER b/os on open today but pulling back now at 9:46am

9:50 added 200 more LVS, likely it will immediately start selling off now lol

9:51 I want to get back into ZLC, but since the COMPQ is selling off it's not a smart time to be buying, w/exception of high volume+ moves like LVS

my WB shares got converted into WFC on the buyout, which I dont want, so I sold for a small $13 loss

9:54 bought 200 more DXO on 2dh b/o; bought 300 ZLC on 2d high test b/o at 4.36 area

9:56 my LVS up to 7.78 right now, nice breakout! wahoo - I expect it to stall out near 8, may sell some back if it does, eg shooting star

9:58am MGM+ may buy some soon; the volume isn't as good as LVS's (compare MGM vs LVS prior day/current day volumes, high volume in LVS);
I want to see it break 15.7+ on volume; I like that we're at 10am here and COMPQ looks to be potentially pivoting to upside

10:01EST MNI+ here, I'm in 200 from 1.32 from earlier swing, will look to add if it clears 1.55+ on volume and COMPQ+ and tape strong

10:03 sold 500 LVS for sm profit ($74), since shooting star on 5-min and it's near 8 whl num res; will re-buy if it clears the 8+ on volume

10:05 TRMP spike on volume to .55, then back to to .34, ah missed it, would've been an easy 1k+; I'm in 5k shares from .25 from earlier. Hmm I think I'll hold it, will sell 1k shares at a time if it gets back over .55, though looks like it'll drop here. hmm.

10:10 considering to add to ZLC if clears 4.6 - 4.7 area, looks strong today, though volume declining is red flag a bit
10:11 added 300 ZLC, total position size in intraday acct now 800 shares at 4.36

10:11 tempted to sell 4k of TRMP here at the .40; I may sell if it gets back down to .37, not sure yet. usually "take the profit fast and early" is the rule for this market, but TRMP has a lot of potential upside if I'm more patient. I'll hold for now.

10:17 ok sold out all 5k shares TRMP for profit of $516 here + $128 (sold 4k, then 1k). Still in 3k shares in longer-term accts.

10:19: P&L - Up +$626 for the day, not a bad way to start off the week, esp. given an intrarange COMPQ.

Now shopping for other stocks to get into....

10:24 bought back 1k shares TRMP at .40

10:27 bought 200 MGM

10:29: bought back 1k more shares TRMP at .41

energy stocks BTU CNX strong

10:34 bought 300 LVS 7.94

10:38 bought 200 more LVS on this b/o over 8 whl num res

considering more mgm

10:40 bought 200 MGM here on the b/o over 16, at 16.09

10:41 bought 200 more ZLC here at 4.71

10:47 sold 900 ZLC here at 4.82 for a win; will re-buy if/when it clears the 5.1 or so; looking for a potential top/pullback here near 5 whl number resistance

10:55 bought 100 LVS 8.29
10:57 sold 600 LVS at 8.22
10:58 bought back 300 LVS; net position in intraday acct now 500 @ 8.14... 8.2 now the battleground in tape betw buys/sells, likely I'll sell
11:01 sold 400 LVS at 8.19, I think it may drop here

11:06am EST I'm up +$1,210 so far on the day. Good start. LVS is driving me nuts. looks toppy, but I've seen strong b/os run multiple points, especially when on high volume, and I don't want to miss a new run. Thankfully I'm in LVS in my fidelity/long term accts too, to capitalize on long term upside

11:07 sld remaining 100 LVS here at the 8.12 area, looks like a potential head and shoulders breakdown. may get back in small shares if it clears 8.55 on volume later in session; or, preferably, if it drops back down to the 7 area, then I'll rebuy if it's bouncing.

Here's the scorecard so far, in my IB intraday account.

Here's the screencap of my interactivebrokers.com account actual trade confirmations, of all my actual trades for today, so far:

Ok onwards...

11:36: Sold 200 ACAS earlier (+$77 profit), still holding 100 shares from 3.92 bought long ago for swing, put in a GTC sell stop at 4.04 (it's currently at 4.18). Looks like a strong 2dh in ACAS, ascending triangle, but since COMPQ still intrarange, I'm skeptical of a continuation so likely will hold off unless significant volume comes in.

11:43 Sold back 1500 TRMP here out of 2k for small stop (-$56). Still up net $488 in it from earlier trade, so that's encouraging. Sold because it's taking out lower lows beneath the .40; will likely rebuy back in if it clears the .42 later.

11:45 bought back 100 LVS here on new 2dh at the 8.4

Strategy Note: How I'm Using Stops with IB

11:49: I like using GTC stops in IB, to automatically sell me out at market if the stock I'm in drops to a place I don't want to still be in long at. Here's a few examples from live trailing stops I just set, for example:

12:46 just added to LVS MGM in my fidelity account, bought 225 LVS and 115 MGM

12:56 checking leaderboard: NAV, VISN, SOA way up, tempted to short if they drop a bit more
-also following CNMD for possible play outside ov 16.5/17.5 current trading range

1:03 trailing stop took out ZLC for $32 win, manually closed out remaining 100 ACAS at 4.94 for $125 profit too.
net wins for the day: $1,317 so far

1:05: Moved up AER trailing stop to 4.55 here

port value now $44,928, almost at the 45k mark. Will be nice to see it hit 50k, hopefully this week. (a double is at 58k)

DRYS+ on radar

I'm thinking my AER looks like a potential top here at 4.65, may manually sell it if the tape gets weak. no shooting star on 5/10/15min candle yet.

1:11 EST: went ahead and sold final 100 shares of AER here at 4.63 for $140 profit.

1:14 watching tape in LVS to see if we get b/o over the 8.50, will add more if it does, on strong momentum

1:15 sold 100 FCSX swing hold here for sm profit of $53

1:17 sold 200 MNI swing here for sm profit of $83

*Likes Methodically Taking Money From Wall Street*
....
scanning
....

looking to buy ZLC back if it drops a lot, or breaks out to new highs, and following tape in LVS for potential b/o over the 8.5, wary of possible headfake though, I may wait til 8.61 to buy if it gets there...watching LVS like a hawk

1:30 bought 400 LVS here at the 8.52 breakout, I don't like buying stocks when they're up this much, but
for a longer swing/position hold will likely be good. Will trail stop close, eg 400 at 8.35, not giving it much room on purpose,
high risk imho.

1:34 ZLC getting some buyers, same story re I don't like buying stocks that are up 20% on the day

1:39 grr 400 LVS stopped out here at the 8.36 for a -$58 stop. I'll still rebuy on new b/o if it clears new day's high 8.6+

tempted to short SOA here at the 6.88, but TRINs are bullish, so I'll skip it. ICE making strong 2d low b/d continuation lows

1:43 bought back my 400 LVS here at 8.43, will put 8.30 stop in for it. I feel like I'm probably overtrading it today. I don't want
to give back earlier profits with a bunch of small "nibble" stops, so I'll discipline myself to not overtrade it today.

1:46 NAV wow no way I'd buy it up here after running to 31 from a 22 bottom, net +35% change on the day. it may still keep going up,
but I am definitely not going to buy.. possible short op on weakness, will follow for that, esp. if COMPQ drops sub 1620

1:52 bought 500 ZLC here at 4.78, trailing close stop on it

1:54 bought 50 DRYS here 14.44 on b/o, trailing stop at 13.8 on it

TCK ENER both strong here on breakouts (b/os)

1:58 shorted 50 NAV here 30.65, it'll probably stop out, I'm only going to give it to 31.5 max to cover

2:07 bought 400 more DXO here 3.34, nervous about NAV short, will cover it if it gets to 31.5 max, following tape; not good
to be short since COMPQ just started getting long, will likely stop out...

2:10 NAV short looking better now, lost the 31 support, still high risk, which is why I only went 50 shares, we'll see... if it doesnt
move soon I'll cover out on gp, because I'm tired o watching the tape on it... drop or pop, make your move nav..

2:20 yawwwn NAV c'mon let's move. Looks like it'll likely stop out, I'll wait a bit more patiently here, using 31.5
max stop out value.

2:22 Looks like my DRYS may stop out too, I'm using a 13.8 stop, it's at 13.94 here.. ah well sometimes you buy the tops, that's what
small stops are for...

Strategy Note: initial stops on all day trades
I've started using initial stop values, that are triggered automatically, for market sell orders for intraday trades, and it works well, since I
don't have to worry about manually exiting/following a lot of positions at once, it's a safety buffer to keep all stops very small.

2:32: Sold 1000 DXO for +$124 profit. Waiting to re-enter only if it takes out new 2d highs

2:35 DRYS stopped out for -$34; still waiting for NAV one way or the other; pennant at the 31, will break one way or the other soon.
I think it'll probably go against me. But my cover stop is 31.5, so we'll see.

2:45 bought 300 more ZLC here since it's not losing the 4.7 support from afternoon, at 4.91

2:48 NAV finally drops a bit. Will likely cover soon because tired o watching it.

2:47 LVS 400 stopped out for -$72/ouch, may re-enter if regains buyers, that's my biggest stop of the day; I want to get back in
400 LVS at best price, so watching here to see if it loses the 8.2/8.0 etc, will re-enter sometime today

3:01 bought back 200 LVS 8.29
3:07 added another 200 LVS 8.34

3:41 still short the NAV, waiting to see if loses 30 support
glad I bought back my LVS, looks to close + today, and the ZLC + too. considering buying a bit more MGM into the close

3:47 covered the NAV at 30.25 from my 30.65 short, not worthwhile since only +$18 for all that

Tiring afternoon, not much worth trading in today's pm session. Overall did well, net P&L for today ended +$1486 --- not bad for a chop monday

Great job Ken,

Using your strategy I was able to make 10% profit on my account in 2 weeks - 46 positions of which only 3 were closed with a negative balance (of course they had a big rally after I closed them but I don't complain); thanks for revealing this strategy; it works like a charm. However I have a dilemma, should I wait for 2-3 red days on the market to enter new positions from my watch list or should I just keep scanning daily, regardless if the market has a rally to enter new positions?

Speaking of red days on the market, I hope to see them soon as I am short 9 positions on another account.

Thank you and good luck,
Val

Hi Val, good to hear it, congrats! Personally I trade almost every day (sometimes overtrading, like I did today), and don't wait.
