Tue Sept 8th
Looks like a lot of opening gaps up this morning, like casino stocks MGM LVS WYNN, which is great since I loaded up on MGM into Friday's close:

I usually sell opening gaps up in my favor at the first sign of a bear cup, eg loss of prior support; considering what to do here (it's right near 9am premarket as I'm writing this). I'll probably sell a bit of my 700 shares MGM if it loses support of the 8.9 or so.

====================
TRADING TIP OF THE DAY:

Daytrading University Trading Strategy Note: I like buying strong stocks into the close, when I "shop for stocks" during the last hour of the market day, for overnight holds, I'm looking for just 2 things: a) is the NASDAQ Composite market taking out day's highs? if so, then b) which stocks are closing on higher-than-usual volume, at the day's high? Then I'll buy those stocks, usually small shares to initiate the position. If it's a stock I know well, like MGM, then I may go deeper, as in this one.
====================

Today: I'm Keeping NVAX HLCS MRVL on radar (I'm in all three, and many more), looks like AIG down premkt, we'll see where it travels today as well.

Remember, specific alerts for many stocks are available daily via http://www.chartscans.com for members.

Opening-day-of-week sessions have been more volatile, upside movers for many of our prior weeks, we'll see what today's session brings; nice strong premarket futures chart here, 4-point uptrending range so far:

Should be a good day for trading.

Winning P&L Trades So far today: Update 11:37am Sept 8 2009
Made some money in MGM so far today, nice P&L to start the day off with:

I won $512 in successful trades today so far -- nice way to start off the week!

3:54 pm update: buying back some MGM into the close here

Hey here's an "overnight double", I'd bought 100 shares of HYTM at .47 yesterday into the high-volume close, so far this morning it's doubled. Do I mind I only bought $47 worth of stock, that's now worth twice that? Nope, because it could have just as easily gapped down, so the key is risk management.

Nice new 2-day and 35-day high breakouts in MGM; I've been focusing mainly on that stock (also trading LVS/WYNN/AIG etc)... here's all my trading P&Ls for today's trades so far... another $600+ day!

Made another couple hundred, had a doctor's appointment so was out much of the middle of the session, missing the MGM breakout (doh!), still made some $ with it, buying more into the close here today, on new 35-day highs.

Fri Sept 11 2009

MGM sold 400 shares for a $307 profit in premarket here in actual trades.

WHY did I sell? See the 1-minute shooting star on the advanced chart? Ca-CHING. I'm very thankful to my colleague Steve Nison for
all his work on showing how to use candles; this shooting star was a great trade confirmation exit.

The fact that it was at near whole-number resistance at the 12.0 even was another confirming exit signal for me in this trade.

It's just one of many of the powerful approaches he and I cover in our http://www.StockTradingSuccess.com 14-DVD system.

I will be rebuying it once it breaks resistance to the upside (eg over 12.1 top shadow of shooting star), or if it does a sharp drop and pivots
(preferably with at least a 1-min hammer for support before buying); I'm standing clear for now.

Hammers, shooting stars and three-line breaks are my favorite candles, and are what I call the "uncertainty killers"... eg they provide
exceptional support to trade decisions for me whenever I trade.

In this case, I was right in my exit, but what if for example it had kept going up after I sold? (it didn't)... Well I'd just have started re-buying
my shares back in over the 12.1 resistance if it traveled up. If it chops and drops (which as of 9:21am EST it still is, at 11.77 now), then I'm
right to have "sold it and stand clear" in the trade to book my profit.

I had bought MGM (and airline stocks and a few others) into yesterdays' close, they're opening up+ today which is great, let's see if they continue moving. I will definitely be using my "Momentum Doubler" strategy on any that take out new 2 day highs that I'm in today.

Here's the premarket P&L and MGM chart so far:

Note how I knew MGM was going to breakout AHEAD OF TIME because the ADX moved up over 40 back on September 7th:

Sign up for my "ADX Mastery" premium webinar I'm doing this Friday to learn how this works, at:

9:18am I just sold 200 of 300 open shares here for a quick $99 profit; I'll go back in long if it bounces and heads up (remembering to check for 5 minute hammer is best, before entering):

Sept 16: doing small wins, small stops today.

BIG win in selling 2,000 shares MGM swing trade from long term acct at 13.75 near day's top earlier.

Getting back into MGM on bounces here

In gaming lingo "I pwn MGM"... :P Know your stocks.

I'll be buying back into MGM if/when it clears the 14.5 area myself in future sessions, it may drop here for now, as it tested and failed resistance at the 14.2 (see longer term chart, this is the top/resistance area, which is why I'd trailed a stop close on 2k shares at 13.75 for a win).
Took a couple of small stops in trying to buy bounces in MGM in my day trading account though. Buying back into MGM here, bought 1k shares average price 12.69 in day trading account, very risky as its more likely to open gap down vs gap up, since high volume selling into close.

However selling 2,000 shares at the 13.75 booked a big gain for me on those, for the longer term position, so that's good.

Overall not a great day since I took large stops trying to momentum-bounce buy back MGM as it sold off today, still net profitable, though just by $73, as you can see above. I end up losing the most in stop-outs when I don't follow my momentum doubler strategy, it was just appealing to see MGM sell off so sharply, to go for bounces. Discipline!

On a 90-day daily candle chart, it's a clear bearish engulfing (on 90day high volume), with support at 12, so I'll use a partial stop right under 12:
(for more on candle chart patterns, see http://www.StockTradingSuccess.com with Steve Nison and myself):

Sept 17th

Because of that bearish engulfing on the swing chart, I lightened up on most of my MGM, selling for a profit in the premarket here on it's fortuitous move up. I will be rebuying it if it travels up from over 13.0 during both pre- and in-market trading:

Update: Thur Sept 17th 1:44pm EST, up $432 so far, kind of quiet/choppy/down session so I'm not trading aggressively:

p.s. per sec/cftc/ftc regs, none of this is to be construed as trading recommendations, it's just for educational use only, so you can "peek over my shoulder" to see what I'm doing with some of my trades. See www.daytradingu.com/disclaim.htm for full disclaimer.
These pages contain excerpts of actual trades I've made; it's not a complete record of every single trade I make. Some days I'll take trading wins or losses that I do not take the time to screencap and post online; it's a partial record of some of my trades. Note that I am not making income nor profitability claims of any kind. Most traders lose regardless of what they do. The majority of my personal income comes from my training business, and though I'm a net profitable (small-share, under 5k shares per trade) trader, I make more income from my business training traders than I do in trading profits. I try to capture the best highlights of successful days so you can see practical examples of what I'm trading. There are also days in which I incur losses which are not shown. This is simply a partial record showing highlights of some of my successful trading days. No representation is being made that other traders, including customers, will be able to trade like I do. Generally expected (average/typical) trader results are that all traders incur trading losses and most do not become profitable, regardless of the training they get. Trading is a speculative, high-risk activity.
